What is this for?

Local authorities can provide grant aid for minor works to address mobility problems in privately owned homes.

What can the funding be used for?

The Mobility Aids Grant allows for the purchase and installation of grab-rails, level access showers, access ramps and stair-lifts and other necessary minor works.

How much is available?

This grant is means-tested, and available only to those with a household income of less than €30,000 per year. The maximum grant available is €6,000, which may cover 100% of the cost of the work.

Who can apply?

This grant is for people who find it hard to move around their home due to mobility issues.

Owner-occupiers and long-term tenants of domestic residences can apply for the scheme. To qualify the house concerned must be where you normally live. If you’re not the owner you must get their permission to carry out the works.

How to apply?

Download the application form from the housing grants section on your local authority's website. You can also contact your local authority and ask them to send the form to you. Once you complete and return the form your local authority will assess your application.
