Self Help Grant
This scheme is helps local authority tenants to carry out improvement works on their home.
Who can apply?
Local authority tenants who want to make improvements to their home can apply for this grant. To be eligible the rent for the property must be up to date.
Once the grant is awarded the tenant is normally responsible for organising the work and paying the contractor up front. When the work is complete the local authority will make an inspection and then make the payment to the tenant.
How much is available?
Normally the amount available will cover a significant proportion of the costs of the works, but it won't cover all the costs.
