Tidy Towns is an annual competition that honours Ireland’s tidiest and most attractive cities, towns and villages. Voluntary and community groups come together and work on visual improvements to their neighbourhood so they can vie for a prize. This scheme supports their efforts by helping to fund some of the improvement works.

Who can apply?

Residents associations and community groups who are entering their town, village or neighbourhood in the Tidy Towns competition can apply for funding under this scheme. It’s normally required to provide evidence of the group’s existence when applying for the grant, for example by providing AGM minutes.

How much is available?

Funding may vary by year to year, and may vary by the takeup of the scheme in the local authority area.

What can the grant be used for?

The TidyTowns competition has a number of different categories, and the grant should help the town or village to compete for at least one of these. It can fund projects like hedge and grass cutting, planting, painting. Projects that support biodiversity and environmental sustainability are encouraged. Projects that involve construction are not eligible for this scheme.

How can I apply?

To apply visit the community section of your local authority’s website. Details of the scheme are announced annually, and you will need to submit your application before a specified closing date.
