Local authorities are working to encourage culture and creativity in their areas through the Creative Communities initiative. Part of the Creative Ireland Programme, this initiative aims to foster collaboration and spark new initiatives across the arts, heritage, libraries, enterprise, and communities.

Creative Communities has delivered over 5,700 creative projects to date and continues to support culture and creative activities in communities across Ireland.

Culture and Creativity Strategy 2023-2027

Each local authority has created a five-year strategy to transform communities, lives, and the environment through creativity. The strategies were developed in collaboration with local artists and creatives, cultural and heritage organisations, and community groups.

Culture and Creativity teams made up of arts officers, heritage officers, librarians, and museum and gallery coordinators and led by a local Creative Ireland Coordinator have been established to develop and support the strategy. Each local authority has been allocated funding under the Creative Ireland Programme to support culture and creativity initiatives in their areas.

Creative Ireland Programme

The Creative Ireland Programme was established to deliver a vision that creativity must be at the heart of public policy, and that participating in culture and creative activities is beneficial for the wellbeing of individuals, communities, and the nation.

The Creative Ireland Programme is a collaboration between government and arts, community, and voluntary organisations. Find out more at https://www.creativeireland.gov.ie/en/.
