Lead is a proven health risk. The Health Service Executive (HSE) advises that there is no safe level of lead in drinking water. Up until the 1970's lead was often used for pipework in domestic plumbing systems, so if you live in an older house it may have lead piping. This grant scheme will help you replace the lead piping and reduce your household's exposure to lead.

Who can apply?

Owner-occupiers and long-term tenants of domestic residences can apply for the scheme.

To qualify the house concerned must be where you normally live. If you’re not the owner you must get their permission to carry out the works.

Holiday homes are excluded from the scheme. Properties owned by local authorities, housing associations and the HSE are not eligible.

How much is available?

The grant provides 100% of costs up to €5,000 to replace lead pipes that carry drinking water within your home. It’s not means tested, and it’s available whether you receive your water from a public or a private water supplier.

How do I apply?

The grant scheme is administered by local authorities. To apply contact your local authority to request the DLRG 1a claim form. Once your local authority receives your application and checks your documentation, they will process your claim.
